You are likely here because you see the “Boost your post and reach 4,561 more people for just £13.45” each time you post something on Facebook, and you question whether it’s worth it or not.
Well my friend, I’m here to tell you right now, today… they’re not.
On surface level, they may seem like a cheaper, faster, less complicated way to run ads.
But this is a “trap” Facebook has set for you, and in this blog, I’m going to defuse it and reveal why you should NEVER run boosts if you want tangible profits.
What They Are And The Sneaky Reason Why They Were First Introduced
(Once you read why Facebook boosts were first introduced, I shouldn’t need to do anymore convincing why they’re a bad idea…)
When Facebook ads manager was still in the development stage, a lot of business owners found it way too complicated to understand and use.
In fact, they found it so complex, they frequently ditched the idea of running an ad, rather than wrap their head around Facebook’s complicated ad manager and post it.
This was bad news for Facebook, they were leaking tens of thousands every single day from people who wanted to advertise, but simply didn’t have the effort to figure it out!
That’s when the “promote post” comes in, after each post you get a notification asking if you want X many more people to see it for Y cheap cost.
Much easier right? Hours of work in the ad manager has now been reduced to a couple button clicks.
And you’re still getting the post in front of thousands of people, for way less money!
So what’s the catch?
When you’re running ads on Facebook, you’ve got seemingly millions of adjustments/options that allow you to target the kinds of people who are actually going to buy from you. – They’re there because the more you adjust with the audience or other parts of the ad, the more effective your ad becomes.
Boosts are much more limited when it comes to customisation, especially with the targeting, meaning when you boost, it’s not shown to the kind of audience you want.
In addition to this, boosts also show up on your main Facebook feed (unlike ads), so if you make a boost that’s purely advertorial, a lot of new traffic won’t like seeing an ad being so high up on your page, so they will be less inclined to follow you.
There Is One Upside…
However there is a positive side to boosts I’ve omitted.
If you have some money to spare, and fancy a bit more brand awareness and more people following your social media.
Then boosts are for you.
By combining boosts with valuable, engaging content, over the span of a couple of weeks you will see your follower count skyrocket and your Facebook page turn into a hive of loyal followers.
And in the long term some of these followers may even turn into new customers.
This can take months of indoctrinating into your company and isn’t guaranteed, which is why it’s not a reliable source for profit.
But in the sense of brand awareness and followers boosts are a great resource.
To Summarise
Unless you are gunning for pure brand awareness, boosts are simply not a worthy investment.
If you want cold hard profit and results from your facebook efforts. — ads are still king of the jungle.
But if you’ve had a campaign that left you disappointed, and you’re unsure about risking it again. Or you simply don’t know where to begin in the complicated world of Facebook ad manager, - which I don’t blame you for, it's complicated!
Then drop me a message and I’d love to help you out.
Aren’t words amazing?
