Sell Anything To Anyone…. Anytime


We’ve all heard of the infamous “sell me this pen” 


It’s a dumb scenario really… yet it reveals a selling flaw that more or less kills your chances of selling instantly.


You see, when most people are asked to sell the pen, they say things like:


“Well I love this pen, it’s metal, it’s got black ink not blue, it looks sleek and really professional…”


This is most people’s natural response, the problem is they’re actually talking me out of buying the pen - even if I had a burning desire to buy it in the first place! 


All they talk about is themselves and why they love this pen so much.


Not one thing is said about meee and why I need to buy it!


And that’s the secret sauce of sales.


Selling the need


I’m going to say it again: Sell. The. Need.


The person you're selling to doesn’t give a damn about why you think the pen is awesome, all they care about is how this pen is going to solve their problems in life.


If I was going to sell you this pen, i would ask you questions like

What will you use this pen for?

Do you do a lot of writing in your job?

What kind of pens do you use in your profession?

How many pens have you got in stock right now?

What if you were to run out pens in stock? How would that interrupt your flow of business?


From your answers, I will understand why you need a pen. 


Then all I need to do is make the pen seem like the best solution to that very need.


If you said you signed documents all day, I’d say this pen can scribe for 26.7 hours continuously and still have plenty of ink left over. If you had just 100 pens, how many documents could you sign before you’d need to think about restocking?


Or maybe you’re fed up with biros running out of ink halfway through, to which I’d say this pen writes super smoothly so you never have to worry about it spontaneously going dry and having to throw it away.


You must do this with your customers and what you sell, you need to find out why they need your product, and tailor it to their needs.
