The absolute vast majority of advertising is irrelevant, cliche, or just plain boring. In the next 2 minutes, I’m going to show you the mental “hack” that’ll hook your customers’ attention, and turn them from mindless scrollers into reading every word of your ad like it’s the finale to an Agatha Christie novel. — Let’s get into it.
Why Attention Is The Most Important Part Of ANY Marketing
You could have the best product in the world. A literal magic wand that will fix any problem in the world with a simple flick, but if you can’t get people to pay attention to it, it’ll never sell.
This is why grabbing attention is so important, and the best part is this psychology is universal, you could sell the most boring thing in the world, but this principle will have people reading your ad like it’s solid gold.
How To Hijack Your Customers’ Attention And Increase Sales, Seemingly On Demand…
The majority of people are on social media for one thing, - to find the next meme that makes them chuckle or the next relatable post for them to share their inner frustrations.
This is the single most important thing when they’re scrolling, so their brain dismisses anything that isn’t going to lead to that hit of dopamine.
So when they see an ad, their brain says “this isn’t it” and moves on in the blink of an eye.
“How the hell are we meant to turn these people into paying customers?!” - I hear you ask, well it’s surprisingly simple:
You need to make your ad more important in their mind than the next meme — And you do this by making the very first line of your ad, a big promise around what your target market desires.
Your customers desire something, whether you’re a fitness coach and it’s losing weight, or your a wedding planner and it’s planning their dream wedding under their budget - each market desires something.
All you need to do is identify this, and make it the first line of your ad.
Here are two killer examples I found whilst looking at real estate ads online for inspiration:
“Your home will be sold within 94 days, or we will pay you $1,500”
“Four little known tricks to get a higher mortgage”
These people want a higher mortgage and they want to sell their house. - And he’s made a large promise about how to get exactly that. - if you were selling your home, wouldn’t you want to read that first ad?
You could keep the rest of your ad the same. But if you follow this principle and change your headline into one of these “killer headlines” — the result of your ad will blow your mind.
